Earth Week 2026

April 22, 2026

Today we celebrate and give thanks to our majestic and mighty ‘‘Spaceship Earth’ for provisioning us with lifetimes of sustenance and wonder. We all know that the existence of our favorite treat, along with everything else we love, relies on a healthy planet. That we figured out how to transform the bitter seeds of a tropical cacao fruit into chocolate by careful cultivation, fermentation, drying, sorting, roasting, winnowing, refining, conching, tempering and molding seems almost magical. How fortunate are we, mere human-auts floating in space, that our planet provides the material and our brains invent the means to create such deliciousness?

We’re a tiny speck in the galaxy of chocolate, true, but we’re committed to being conscientious stewards of the human and planetary resources that pass through our hands at GDC.

Cheers to our beautiful, bountiful planet,
Jody

Compostable pouches

We’re on a mission to eliminate all single use petroleum-based plastic in our packaging and we’re thrilled to share that we’re moved all of our drinking chocolate, chocolate covered items and snacking discs to new compostable packaging!

GDC is sponsoring an education podcast produced by the Institute for Cacao and Chocolate Research based at Harvard to continue to advance research and knowledge into sustainable cacao and chocolate. Check it out!

Drinking chocolate

In order to be better stewards of all resources and to create a roadmap for year over year improvement, we’ve started the BCorp certification process in 2026. Among other initiatives, this year we’re working on a new system to compost all of our food scraps and to-go paper cups. You can help us by ensuring you dispose of your paper cups in designated bins when they become available later this Spring!
