Job Title: Lead Chocolatier | Full-time year round

Location: Chocolate Shop

Reports to: Director of Production/Head Chocolatier

Compensation: $16.50 - $19.50/hr depending on experience, shared tips, 40% employee discount, paid time off, wellness stipend, earned sick time, lots of chocolate and only 3 blocks from Empire beach!

This position includes a 90 day paid apprenticeship to ensure the candidate is the right fit for the position.

Job Description

The Lead Chocolatier works directly with our Production Manager to make GDC’s chocolates and confections to our exceptionally high standards, in accordance with our values, sourcing policy and recipe specifications. 

Specific duties/requirements include...

Following daily/weekly tasks in the kitchen including: topping bars, piping, making truffles, caramel, ganaches, chocolate covered confections, baking, ingredient preparation, washing dishes, cleaning molds, packaging, opening/closing duties etc. 

Upholding the highest standards for quality.

Working in compliance with ServSafe and MI Dept of Health requirements for sanitation and food safety. It is vital to GDC that we have the highest level of cleanliness possible and this position is critical to maintaining these standards. This includes coming to work showered and in clean clothes with hair restrained (hat or headband) trimmed fingernails, little to no jewelry, closed toe shoes, no heavy perfume/cologne. 

Setting up, operating, and tending to equipment and machines for production of products. 

Assisting in all aspects of GDC production, including training new production employees with a positive attitude and coordinating kitchen production when the production manager is away.

Actively participating in staff education and quality improvement tasting/meetings. 

Open, honest communication with co-workers about tasks and willingness to accept constructive feedback, improve and seek new knowledge. 

Requires attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks. 

Physically able to stand for your entire working shift, lift 55 lbs and have stamina for repetitive tasks.

Must be reliable and able to work independently once trained. Must be accurate in reporting hours and products made.
