Our Story

Mimi Wheeler, founder of Grocer's Daughter Chocolate Grocer's Daughter Chocolate was started in 2004 and is owned and operated by me, Mimi Wheeler. We are a small, family-owned business, perched on a dune in the quant village of Empire, on the shores of Lake Michigan.

My love for rich, dark chocolate and a deep connection to my garden inspire my truffles and other chocolate creations. I use fruits, edible flowers and herbs from my summer garden and from the soils and the natural beauty of northern Michigan. Travels and studies of chocolate in France and Scandinavia also helped give birth to this production.

Our chocolates are all-natural and contain many organic and other naturally grown ingredients. I grow most of the herbs in my home gardens, as well as a few around the store/kitchen. We package the chocolates in compostable bags and recyclable materials when possible. We produce and sell the chocolate from beautiful Leelanau County, Michigan.

I hope you will enjoy these handcrafted, artisan chocolates for their quality and their uniqueness.
